Sarah E. Spencer
I work with Professionals in Transition.
My clients want to improve their professional and leadership acumen or are seeking support to create their next vision. Many of them work in mission-driven nonprofits and global education. They maybe transitioning from an organization and looking to become a solopreneur. They maybe mid-career professionals who feel stuck or younger professionals planning their next move.
Why I Became a Coach
I found my way to professional coaching like many of my life-lived journeys and travels and applying a similar cyclical framework: reflecting on which paths created the most energy and momentum, asking myself what I thought, and how I felt about an opportunity, and deeply trusting my intuition. I believe this was the result of partly being raised to be naturally curious, asking questions and modeling active listening, and partly inheriting my mother’s positive, glass-half-full versus glass-half-empty attitude, an essential skill for someone who lived with Multiple Sclerosis for 37 years.
I found myself at a crossroads a few years ago and serendipity presented me with two opportunities that led to new energy and integration with my previous experience with current passions. The first was the Global Leadership League, an award-winning organization for professionals committed to global and higher education engagement that I helped found in 2017. The second was to start my consultancy and coaching practice focused on providing positive leadership and solutions to non-profits and global education endeavors.
My coaching practice is profoundly influenced by my professional journeys and experiences. Working at a mission-driven organization, I have loved focusing on developing global partnerships and programs, working effectively across cultures and with diverse stakeholders. I recognize the cultural complexities and intersectionalities of clients, and feel very comfortable partnering and supporting individuals or teams as they navigate and work through goals. I also know the deep realities of being place-bound, finding creativity with constrained resources and successfully recovering from burnout.
I look forward to my journeys in coaching and am cheered every time I think of a former mentor, who made the leap from mechanical engineer to management and wisely advised us to chase the energy.
